WELCOME TO THE MUNICIPALITY OF KRICHIM

Everybody has a place for the big love – the love for the native land.

Krichim is situated where the river of Vacha leaves the north slopes of the Rhodopes Mountains and goes to the smooth and luxuriant Thracian valley, a native land for 8600 people.

There are reasons why people from the town of Krichim are proud of their native land, historical past, nature and cultural traditions. Three ethnic communities – Bulgarians, Turkish and Roma – live neighborly and helpful in Krichim.

There is only one town in the Municipality of Krichim. It’s area is about 500 000 acres. The Municipality’s boundaries are: Municipality of Stamboliiski to the North, Municipality of Perushtitsa to the East, Municipality of Devin to the South and Municipality of Bratsigovo to the West. The altitude of the town of Krichim is 230 m. The town is separated in two parts by the river of Vacha, which turns this region into a natural heaven garden.

The history of the town starts in VI c. A.D. It’s built up as an important strategic fortress, fortified and developed by the Bulgarian rulers. The history has left many memories for the struggles of the tribes and nations lived her through the ages. Part of these memories are the ruins of the Medieval fortress. On the left bank of Vacha you can see the Big Citadel (Ivankovoto Kale).
