Maria Grozdeva gives presents to children from orphanages in Plovdiv and Stara Zagora

On December 20, 2006 Maria Grozdeva, an Olympic and World champion in pistol shooting, visited two orphanages in order to give Christmas presents to the children. In the first orphanage “Olga Skobeleva” in Plovdiv she gave a TV set to the children and in the second orphanage “Bulgarka” in Stara Zagora she gave an audio system.

The funds for that donation are raised by the employees of First Investment Bank (FIB) during the bank’s Christmas party. FIB asked Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation (WCIF) for co-operation in order the raised funds to be distributed effectively. WCIF decided to make Christmas presents on behalf of the bank to orphanages that are supported at the second session of “Social responsibility of First Investment Bank” fund.

Supporting children has been always a priority in FIB social activities and that’s why in 2004 FIB together with WCIF created "Social responsibility of First Investment Bank" fund that finances projects in orphanages. The supported projects are aimed at creating conditions and skills in children for a more independent life after they leave the institutions. Up to now some 45,000 Bulgarian levs have been allocated under the fund for financing of 12 projects. Currently the third call for proposals is still opened.

In 2006 First Investment Bank for the first year gave a scholarship for education at University. The scholarship was given to Miglena Petrova from the orphanage in Plovdiv – “Olga Skobeleva” in order to continue her education at Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”.

One of the aims of FIB management during the next year is to include actively all the bank’s employees in realization of social campaigns as part of FIB strategy for improvement of its overall social policy.
